Windscreen Deicing Technologies

New inventions and technologies are constantly being created. Windows and windscreens are receiving major attention as technologies are directed to improve the safety of driving and driving performance. One technology that is under way is a process by which windscreens will be automatically defrosted and de-iced.

Technologies are using sensors on the windscreens to recognize the presence of ice. Windscreens will then be heated so that the ice will melt. Other more advanced research is being conducted that will deliver low electrical impulses to the windscreen creating a barrier between the windscreen and the ice. This non adhesive barrier will then cause the ice collecting on the windscreen to be released.

Some researches would like to see both of these technologies used in conjunction with each other. The heated windows being used for the initial removal of ice when you first enter the vehicle and the non-adhesive barrier used during your driving experience to prevent further build up of ice.

These windscreen technologies are receiving a lot of attention. They can potentially prevent driver’s sight from being blocked from weather conditions making the roads safer for people. Furthermore, this technology has the potential to be crossed over into different venues such as aircraft and military.
