Windscreen Chips
Glass Doctors are able to repair approximately 95% of the windscreens that we inspect. A windscreen replacement firm may say, “it’s less than 2 inches from the edge” or “we can’t repair chips in the A Zone” or “it’s got cracks in it so it will split anyway,” but as a windscreen repair firm committed only to repairing your windscreen we are happy to say that if the damaged area on your windscreen can be covered by a £1 coin, the chances are that we can repair it for you.
Call Glass Doctors and talk to one of our skilled technicians for personalised advice on your damaged windscreen. We have no call-out fee as we can tell in 95% of all cases whether your windscreen is repairable over the telephone! Once repaired, the damage should be barely visible - no more intrusive in your line of vision than a dried up rain spot.
Windscreen Cracks

There is also a good chance that we can repair windscreens with a crack which can be covered by a credit card. Windscreen cracks collect and retain dirt and debris, which could leave the repaired area more visible after repair, so for the best possible repair results, call us to perform our expert windscreen repair as soon as possible.
Cracks at the edge of your windscreen are a Glass Doctors specialty. Most repair companies cannot match the results we achieve as they do not have the specially strengthened crack repair resin we use to withstand the stress of long crack repair. Our special repair resin cures under the windscreen edge rubber to maximise the bonding strength - without the need for UV to cure it!
Crack Repair In Action

Please do not call for cracks over 6″ in length. To call Glass Doctors or to find a repairer in your area, please visit our Coverage & Contact List.

Will my car pass the MOT with a chipped windscreen?
Posted by Glass Doctors | Filed under MOT failure, Windscreen Repair
Many people say, “it’s just a chip; it doesn’t matter”.
They are wrong - even a small chip can make your vehicle fail its MOT.

Windscreen inspections have been part of the annual MOT test since 1993. We were instrumental in advising the Department of Transport on the MOT rules and we bring that knowledge and expertise when we repair your windscreen.
There are clear rules about what must be repaired in different parts of your windscreen, particularly the part that is swept by your windscreen wipers.
Did you know? The suppliers most recommended by your insurance company will refuse to repair your MOT failure!
Our MOT Guarantee (what the replacement companies refuse to offer…)
Glass Doctors can’t guarantee that one of our repairs will pass the MOT if it is oxidised (milky) or contaminated by dirt. However all standard repairs will pass because we are able to make them “barely detectable” as required by the MOT testers manual. If you have an MOT failure within the guarantee period and you replace the screen just send us the replacement bill and we will refund our repair charge in full.
What damage could fail the MOT?

- Damage larger than 10mm will fail in the drivers line of vision. Marked Zone “A” above
- Damage larger than 40mm will fail in the rest of the swept area Marked Zone “B” above.
- Significant scratching that impairs the drivers vision
Remember
- If a chip is in the drivers line of vision, it only has to be bigger than 10mm for your windscreen to fail its MOT.
- The MOT testers manual says “any damage not contained within a circle of 10mm” so a cluster of minor damage could also fail
To find out whether your windscreen can be repaired for your car to pass its MOT, call one of our windscreen repair experts for London and the Home Counties now on 01494 813583 or visit our Contact & Coverage List to speak directly to your local repairer if you are outside this area.

How Does it Work? Can a Windscreen really be repaired?

The first image is before a visit from Glass Doctors, and the second is after a visit from Glass Doctors.
Windscreen repair is a cheap but effective alternative to replacing damaged windscreens. Simply a windscreen repair is accomplished by injecting a specially formulated resin into the damaged area. The resin is then cured and polished to restore structural strength and clarity to the glass.
Windscreen repair is performed without destroying the factory’s safety seal. This seal holds the windscreen securely in place during collisions and that ensures the airbag will deploy properly. Using our method you can also expect to…
- Restore structural integrity to damaged glass (prevents cracking out)
- Improve clarity by 80% or more in damaged area
- Environmentally friendly as it extends useful life of the glass (windscreens cannot be recycled)
- Save money on windscreen replacement (£200 vs £50)
- Will pass MOT
- Prevents a risky windscreen replacement

Posted by Glass Doctors | Filed under Free Windscreen Repair, Windscreen Repair
Free Windscreen Repair ? I dont believe it !
As windscreen repair is performed without destroying the factory’s safety seal which holds the windscreen securely in place during collisions and that ensures the airbag will deploy properly, most insurance companies will waive your excess and pay the entire cost of a Glass Doctors repair if you are insured fully comprehensive. (not fleet or commercial policies)
So repair is actually FREE! If your insurer is listed below we can either bill your insurer direct or they will reimburse you for the repair without costing you an excess or affecting your no claims bonus. **Some insurers now have an excess or top limit for repairs so you may have to make up the difference. *Some insurers offer “flexible”, “basic” or “value” fully comp policies that exclude glass cover altogether.

Windscreen Crack, Can I fix it myself?
Posted by Glass Doctors | Filed under Windscreen Repair
Would you fix your own teeth if you had a drill?
Probably not… so why people think they can repair their own windscreens after watching a 20 minute video is bizarre!
We see many DIY kit “repairs” during the working day, ( some even carried out by German Prestige main dealers!)
- Many “repairs” still have water in them because the repairer could not recognise it or remove it ( fact: 50% of windscreen breaks have residual water in them betwen November and February!)
- Many DIY resins just go yellow and fall out just days or weeks after they have been used (even if they have passed the British Standard!)

JUST LIKE THIS!
- Many DIY kit repairers cannot manipulate a break so that the resin gets into every crack (therefore the cracks are not bonded back together as they should be and the screen could still crack out!)
- We have sucessfully re-repaired many chips that have been attempted by others. Just to show customers how it should be done!

JUST LIKE THIS!
- You only really get one chance to repair a screen properly, and the sooner the better, why risk your £200 windscreen to save £5 or trust a company who also fits screens as well ?
Remember, our repairs are the industry standard, your glass will look ” Barely detectable” as required by the MOT rules and your insurance company can pay for it - why even bother trying yourself, or trusting a replacement company who might “accidently crack” your screen whilst attempting a repair.
