Dear Bod

Sorry to hear about your bad experience, some companies have lifetime warranty on their work so you may have some redress there. This is one of the reasons why we advise NOT to replace a screen unless absolutely necessary, most insurers are mainly driven by cost so if you go to your insurers nominated supplier you can be assured of one thing...
a cheap job!

I recently acquired a BMW where the windscreen had just been replaced by xxxxxxx. I later found water ingress and discovered large gaps around the windscreen where there was a complete absence of mastic. Not only that but the paintwork had been scratched and damaged around the glass that rust had quickly taken hold, but was not immediately evident as it was covered by the rubber sunscreen surround. Additionally, in some areas too much mastic had been applied, completely blocking the drainage channels under the rubber surround, creating rust and nd further damage. The water ingress also cost new electronic control units for the abs and door window controls, plus the cost of having to repair the bodywork and refit a new screen.

Please note that the above article was written by a glass replacement expert not a glass repair company with an axe to grind. The fact of the matter is that people have died from being ejected from their vehicle in the event of an accident, and injured from being crushed due to faulty glass fittment. We are pleased that you seem to be taking your job seriously and have the relevant qualifications for glass fitting, however this is not the case in all companies and we feel it is right to bring these concerns to light and allow the customer to make an educated choice. Many customers are unaware of the risks and we feel it is responsible to highlight the dangers that might not be immediately apparent to them. If an educated customer then demands a quality fittment from a competent supplier that is good for the customer and the glass replacement industry. If the general risk of a replacement screen can be avoided in the first place then that is preferable from a safety point of view and that is why we aim to do the best repairs possible which will be more likely to be acceptable to the discerning customer and avoid the risk of a replacement altogether. If a windscreen chip repair is poor then ANY customer can see it looks bad as we have shown elsewhere on this site. If a windscreen replacement is bad there is no easy way of telling, thats the problem...

This website is so DEPRIMENTAL & MISLEADING.
At least OUR work is covered under NVQ & British standards.
Admittedly some companies dont have this standard & should be removed.
I wonder if the OMBUDSMAN would be interested in the SCARE MONGERING ???
