Free Windscreen Repair on Insurance: Do You Qualify?

Free Windscreen Repair ? I dont believe it !

You may have heard about this in the media and wondered what it was about, most companies will waive your excess and pay the entire cost of a Glass Doctors repair if you are insured fully comprehensive. (not fleet or commercial policies or basic policies) Some of the bargain basement companies do now apply an excess to repairs.

So windscreen chip repair is normally FREE! If your insurer is listed below we can either bill your insurer direct ( 10% of companies ) or they will reimburse you for the repair (80% of companies) without costing you an excess or affecting your no claims bonus. Some insurers may record this as a claim but not load your policy and you may therefore be obliged to disclose it upon renewal.

Some bargain basement insurers now even charge a £10 or £25  excess on repairs so you may also have to pay this too.

**Some insurers now have an excess or top limit for repairs so you may have to make up the difference. *Some insurers offer “flexible”, “basic” or “value” fully comp policies that exclude glass cover altogether.

Is it “smaller than a £1 coin” ? If so there is a reasonable chance of a good repair if it is reasonably fresh.

Direct Line will pay up to £40 in total leaving the client to pay £32. Although it may seem inconvenient to actually pay for a windscreen chip repair it would be more risky to trust the nominated supplier to try and repair it as they are normally only able to repair 16% of damage they get given whereas glass doctors are able to repair 84% so you may end up with an excess bill for £75 if it goes wrong. Thats £43 MORE expensive!
